Postdoc Position in Advanced Materials Lab, Northwestern University

cbrinson's picture

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in Brinson’s Advanced Materials Lab involving collaborative work on finite element modeling of nanostructured polymer composites. The majority of the work will be split across two projects on the subject.  The first project involves 3D modeling of filled elastomers, with a focus on the viscoelastic properties. Non-linear viscoelastic modeling experience is a plus, but not required. A major focus of the Advanced Materials Lab is the study of the role of interfaces in polymers, both in the context of nanocomposites, as well as ultrathin polymer films on substrates. The postdoc will also contribute to this project by providing physical insights from molecular modeling to understand the mechanisms at play in polymer interfaces. Experience with writing code for 3D finite element modeling in Abaqus and creating user subroutines is required. The research group is highly interactive encompassing synthesis, characterization and modeling of polymers and other advanced material systems. There is significant latitude in research explorations and opportunities to assist with proposals and preparation of reports and interaction with research sponsors. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to mentor junior graduate and undergraduates students in topically similar projects. Finally, publication of the work is of key importance. Northwestern provides an excellent benefits package to postdoctoral fellows including health, dental, vision and 401(k).

Applicants are requested to send their CV along with their availability to the following email address only: cbrinson.MDpostdoc@gmail.com

Due to the volume of applications, individual responses will only be given to a few top applicants.
