Faculty positions
The Mechanical Engineering Department at the
American University of Sharjah (AUS) is seeking applicants for permanent
appointments at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in all disciplines of
Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, the department has openings, starting in
January 2014, for one-year visiting positions at all ranks and all disciplines including
design and manufacturing, dynamics and control systems.
The ideal candidate must have potential to develop a strong
research program and be capable of teaching courses in his or her area of
expertise, in addition to mechanical engineering core courses. Faculty members
in the department are active in different research areas, e.g. energy, CFD,
materials and manufacturing, autonomous systems, mechatronics and robotics.
The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical
engineering, and an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering. Applications including a cover letter, curriculum vitae,

Strong preference is given to candidates with
degrees (BS, MS, PhD) from a western-style university that is ABET (or
equivalent) accredited. Teaching experience in an American model of higher
education and work experience in North American industry are highly desirable. Positions

Head position
The
Department of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Department Head.
A candidate must hold a doctorate degree in Mechanical
Engineering or closely related areas and demonstrate a strong commitment to
excellence in teaching, scholarship and professional service. Preference will
be given to candidates with a current academic rank of professor; however,
individuals at the senior associate professor level and individuals with a
strong history of organizational leadership in technical commercial
environments are encouraged to apply.
Applicants for the head position should have teaching
experience and distinguished records of scholarly publication. The successful
candidate should be a dynamic and innovative individual with demonstrated
leadership and administrative experience and should possess strong
communication skills to broadly engage with a variety of constituents, both
within and outside of the University. The selected candidate should develop and
articulate a vision and long-range plan for the department that is consistent
with the mission and strategic plan of the University and the College. The
successful candidate is expected to foster relationships with community
agencies and seek resources necessary for the department to fulfill its
responsibilities in teaching, research, and service. Candidates interested in

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at AUS offers an ABET-accredited
engineering bachelor’s degree program, as well as a Master’s degree. The
Department currently has 18 full-time faculty members and approximately 600
students, in addition to several lab instructors and support staff. Its
