Call for Abstracts in Mini-Symposium on "Computational Modeling of Microstructural Evolution II”- ASME Congress 2014
Dear Colleague,
We would like to invite you to participate in a mini-symposium entitled “Computational Modeling of Microstructural Evolution II” in ASME 2014 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (http://www.asmeconferences.org/Congress2014/).
ASME Congress and Exposition will be held in Montreal's downtown convention center, 14-20 November 2014.
Computational Modeling of Microstructural Evolution II
Mini-Symposium Description
The thermal, mechanical, electrical and other properties of materials are known to be primarily determined by the microstructures that develop during different material processing, e.g., solidification, annealing, etc. Advanced computational methods can provide valuable information to predict the properties and design new materials. This symposium invites abstracts and full manuscripts for contribution in the following areas:
- Advances in modeling and simulation of microstructures of metallic alloys using different computational techniques, such as phase field, phase field crystal, cellular automaton, lattice Boltzmann;
- Solid state diffusional and martensitic phase transformations, eutectic and peritectic growth, secondary microstructures;
- Effect of convection on solidification microstructures, effects of thermal gradients, freckles and segregation defects, dendrite fragmentation;
- Coupling solidification to grain formation and growth simulations;
- Solidification defects at high solid fraction, microporosity, hot tearing, mushy zone rheology;
- Large-scale simulation of microstructural evolution, parallel simulations, adaptive meshing;
- Atomistic of solid-liquid and solid-solid interfaces, interface anisotropy and kinetics.
