The position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with the appointment expected to begin September 1, 2015. Excellent candidates with research interests in any area of structural engineering and mechanics will be given full consideration, although particular areas of interest are: (1) computational solid mechanics addressing fundamental problems and applications relevant to maintaining and improving civil infrastructure and the built environment; (2) Modeling and testing of large scale structural systems. Secondary research interests in probabilistic methods, uncertainty quantification, validation of computational models through physical testing, or civil infrastructure materials are desirable. In additional to collaborative opportunities with the SEM group excellent opportunities for collaboration exist with solid mechanics researchers in the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Geosciences, Polymer Science and Engineering departments, with structural engineers in the program in Building and Construction Technology, and with the Program in Architecture and Design.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. with an emphasis in Structural Engineering, Structural or Computational Mechanics, or other closely related field (degree by September 1, 2015). Faculty in the CEE department are responsible for establishing and maintaining a program of externally funded research and for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Structural Engineering and Mechanics.
