Dear Colleagues:

We are organizing a symposium titled "To Yield or Not to Yield: Multiscale Perspectives in Plasticity and Failure of Materials" at the 2015 Mach conference, which will be held in Annapolis, MD, USA during April 8-10, 2015.  We cordially invite you to participate in the 2015 Mach Conference by giving a talk in our symposium.

This symposium proposes to bring together researchers in the field of computational and experimental materials mechanics with a view towards designing optimal materials. The symposium will be a platform to share developments and outstanding issues in understanding plasticity and failure in advanced materials at different length-scales, time-scales and loading environments. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

1.    Multi-scale features of plasticity
2.    Mechanism-based modeling of materials failure
3.    Effects of extreme conditions: pressure, irradiation, loading rates.

Of particular interest are investigations that aim at bridging multi-scale experimental characterization with mechanism-based materials modeling.  Abstracts can be submitted via http://machconference.org/submit-an-abstract/ before December 5, 2014.

We eagerly look forward to your participation at the Mach Conference and to your talk at our symposium.

Sincerely,

Vikram Gavini (University of Michigan)

Shailendra Joshi (National University of Singapore)
