Orr Early Career Award (ASME Materials Division) 

The Materials Division of ASME is pleased to announce that nominations are being accepted for the Orr Early Career Award. This Early Career Award is given by the Orr Family through the Materials Division of the ASME to recognize early career research excellence in the general area of Failure of Materials, with particular emphasis on experimental, computational, and/or theoretical aspects of fatigue, fracture or creep. 

The Orr Early Career Award recipient will be award a crystal obelisk with the awardees' name along with an honorarium of $4,000. In addition, travel expenses of up to $1000 will be reimbursed to allow the recipient to attend the meeting at which the award presentation is made.

Any researcher within seven years of terminal degree and working in experimental, computational, and/or theoretical aspects of fatigue, fracture, or creep can be considered for the Materials Division Orr Early Career Award.

The nominator must name the proposed young investigator, briefly describe the importance of the work by the early-career investigator, and provide a five-page CV of the nominee to the Chair of the Honors and Awards Committee of the MD Executive Committee. Nominations must be emailed to xichen@columbia.edu  with a copy to the ASME office (McComieJ@asme.org )  no later than Feb 15, 2015. The Chair of the Honors and Awards Committee will present the nominations to the Materials Division Executive Committee for a final vote.

The Early Career Award will be conferred at the Materials Division Reception at the annual ASME IMECE meeting in the calendar year following his/her selection.
