We currently have an exciting and challenging research leadership opportunity for a specialist in aluminum sheet product metallurgy to be based at the Novelis Global Research and Technology Center in Kennesaw, Georgia. With world-class researchers and state-of-the-art facilities, the center plays a leading role in developing and helping to implement innovative technology in close co-operation with Novelis’ worldwide operations.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead projects focused on the development of superior aluminum sheet products and act as a key resource within Novelis’ global technology network by contributing expertise related to the impact of alloying and processing on microstructure and properties, and on product performance in customer operations and applications. Working closely with other team members in research and in manufacturing, the job-holder will strive to turn innovative science and technology into robust, working solutions. They will also play an important part in helping to grow and strengthen Novelis’ metallurgy competency through development of our people and capabilities. There will be opportunity to travel, to collaborate with colleagues in Novelis’ plants and regional research and technology centers around the globe, and to support customers. The role provides significant opportunity for technical and team leadership, and a real chance to impact the future success of Novelis’ global businesses.

General Requirements

·          PhD in metallurgy, metallurgical engineering or materials science/engineering.

·          At least 10 years research experience gained after PhD completion in an industrial R&D environment, or working in close cooperation with industry, with a strong focus on physical metallurgy.

·          Specific experience related to aluminum products for application in the markets noted above would be a distinct advantage, although applicants with relevant research experience in steels or other metals would also be considered.

·          Proven project management experience and skills with a track record of technical leadership in an R&D setting.

·          Previous experience of managing people.

·          Experience of successful collaboration with internal and/or external customers to implement technical solutions and innovations.

·          Capability to thrive in a team environment, communicate well and to engage and influence a wide variety of stakeholders throughout the organization.

·          Broad science and engineering background and ability to apply knowledge from multiple disciplines to solve problems.

·          International outlook and willingness to travel to other Novelis or customer locations.
