ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY:
The University of Alabama in Huntsville, classified as a Very High Research Active institution, offers academic and research programs in the Colleges of Nursing, Business Administration, Engineering, Science, Education, and Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. Huntsville maintains one of the highest per capita incomes and standards of living in the Southeast. It is a national center of aerospace and high technology research and is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Huntsville and surrounding communities present many opportunities for healthcare research and professional practice. The College of Nursing currently cooperates with more than 400 sites for clinical education.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
The College of Engineering is comprised of five Departments and has the largest enrollment of the university’s five academic colleges. The research focus in the college includes three of several National Academy of Engineering (NAE) grand challenge problems.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department offers a BS degree in both Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, and an MS and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Systems Engineering. Our faculty is currently comprised of 18 tenure-track/tenured members and 4 full-time lecturers. Our student body includes approximately 920 undergraduate and 170 graduate students. Our faculty’s research interests include materials for aerospace applications and for energy storage, gas turbine heat transfer, electro-chemical energy conversion and storage, control of unmanned systems, applications of smart materials, and computational fluid dynamics applied to low-speed combustion and fire applications, fluid-structure interactions, and high-speed aerodynamics. The Department is nationally known for its educational and research activities in solid, liquid, electric, plasma, and nuclear rocket propulsion, and several of its faculty members are actively engaged in the UAH Propulsion Research Center.

JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Materials for Aerospace Applications. Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field. A successful applicant must evidence the ability to develop an externally funded research program, have a strong commitment to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and have an interest in performing university and professional service.
