Understanding of fracture behavior under multi-axial/biaxial loading is of significant importance for the safety assessment of nuclear pressure vessels and oil/gas pipelines. The defects (axial or circumferential) in these engineering structures are inherently under multi-axial/biaxial loading during both normal operating and accident conditions. Currently the fracture toughness obtained from standard tests specimens are used widely for fracture assessments. Commonly used standard toughness test specimens (such as C(T), SE(B) or SE(T) specimens) are all under uniaxial loading conditions. However, it has been observed that the fracture behavior under multi-axial loading conditions can deviate significantly from uniaxial loading. This session/mini symposium is organized to promote and disseminate latest research on multi-axial/biaxial loading on fracture behavior. It will cover analytical, computational and experimental aspects of fracture studies under multi-axial/biaxial loading conditions.
Please send your expression of interests by submitting a tentative title to one of the session chairs by October 15, 2016, for planning purposes.
Full abstract will be due by October 31, 2016, to be submitted via the conference website: www.icf14.org.
