One Ph.D position in Mechanics of Materials at Temple University starting Fall 2017 or Spring 2018

One Ph.D. opening will be available in the Applied Mechanics of Materials Lab of Mechanical Engineering Department at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, USA. The Ph.D. position will start ideally in Fall 2017 or the coming Spring 2018

The research program will focus on mechanics of soft metamaterials, as well as their applications in programmable matter and soft robotics by means of origami and kirigami. The research will involve a combination of experiment (3D printing, mechanical testing, materials synthesis, and fabrication etc), analytical modeling, and numerical simulation methods (mainly finite element method).

Candidates with high self-motivation, experimental or modeling background and interests in solid mechanics, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering are highly encouraged to apply. Minimum GPA requirement is 3.0/4.0. For international applicants, TOEFL or IELTS is required (minimum 79 on the internet-based TOEFL or a 6.5 on the academic version of IELTS). GRE is also required (Quantitative – 151 minimum). Applicants with master degree are preferred but not required.
