Postdoctoral Position At Northwestern University

A postdoctoral associate position is available immediately at the Computational Nanodynamics Laboratory at Northwestern University with Prof. Sinan Keten. This research project focuses broadly on the atomistic and multi-scale modeling of biomolecular materials such as nanocellulose and their interfaces with polymers. The project spans three related research areas, including (1) coarse-grained model development for high aspect ratio nanomaterials and their assemblies (2) physics of polymer conjugated nanoparticles (3) ballistic response and mechanical behavior of polymer nanocomposites. The post-doctoral researcher will have the opportunity to investigate how self-assembly dictated by molecularly designed interfaces influences mechanical properties at larger scales. The project is highly interdisciplinary and involves collaborations within the research group, as well as externally with experimental groups across Northwestern University and other institutions. The candidate will lead a team of researchers and is expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarly writing. The position is for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of renewal and/or promotion to a research associate position based on performance in subsequent years. 

A Ph.D. in a related field is required for this position. Expertise in atomistic and molecular modeling techniques (molecular dynamics, density functional theory, coarse-grained molecular simulations) is required. Additionally, a strong background in soft matter research (polymer science, biophysics, or related areas) is highly desired.
