2018 Daniel C. Drucker Medal - Professor David Barnett

The Executive Committee of the ASME Applied Mechanics Division is pleased to announce and congratulate Professor David Barnett, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus, Stanford University, as the recipient of the 2018 Daniel C. Drucker Medal. This award, which includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium, will be presented at the AMD Honors and Awards Banquet, tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, to be held in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, November 12-15, 2018.

The Daniel C. Drucker Medal was established in 1997 and is conferred in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of applied mechanics and mechanical engineering through research, teaching, and service to the community over a substantial period of time. Instituted by the Applied Mechanics Division, this medal honors Dr. Daniel Drucker and commemorates his service to the profession.

Professor Barnett receives the Drucker Medal for the development of the integral formalism for solving problems in anisotropic elasticity, which he used to make fundamental breakthroughs in the understanding of defects and interfacial waves in solids.
