Faculty position at Illinois Institute of Technology in mechanics/manufacturing/materials

The Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor position. The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary background in mechanics, manufacturing, and materials. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in multidisciplinary topics such as additive manufacturing, metal processing, powder processing, and optimization of manufacturing processes across a wide range of engineering and scientific applications.

Preferred candidates should have a PhD in mechanical, materials, or aerospace engineering. Candidates will be expected to teach courses in areas such as mechanics, design, manufacturing, and/or materials. Successful candidates are expected to establish a vibrant externally funded research program that supports graduate students and leads to a strong record of published research. They are also expected to be highly effective teachers for undergraduate and graduate courses in the MMAE Department.

Applications at the Associate Professor and Full Professor rank will be considered for exceptional candidates with a distinguished track record in publications and funding. The MMAE Department strongly encourages cross-cutting and collaborative research. The position is expected to start in Fall 2019.

The MMAE Department at IIT offers ABET accredited BS degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and materials science and engineering, as well as master’s degrees and doctoral degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering and materials science and engineering. The full time enrollment over the last several years has been around 500 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. The department houses several well-equipped laboratories in the materials area.
