Two Ph.D. positions are available immediately in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). The positions can be started as early as Jan 23, 2019 if possible.  Successful candidates will participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary and collaborative research group in our Blast and Impact Dynamics Lab and Additive Manufacturing for Research and Education Cluster (AMREC) at Ole Miss, and be involved in projects pursuing research in the field of shockwave/high-strain rate impact simulations, material and constitutive modeling, and failure analysis. Applicants in the areas of computational mechanics, continuum mechanics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering or other closely related fields are welcome.


1.A B.S. or B.E. in engineering (mechanical, materials science) or physics. M.S. or M. E. is favorable.

2.Research experience in using FEA software, e.g., ANSYS, ABQUS, MSC Patran/Nastran, or COMSOL 

3.Computational research experience in at least two of the following areas be particularly favorable: finite element modeling, meshless methods, DFT calculation, atomistic simulations (MD/MM) and coarse grained modeling.

4.GRE, TOEFL and/or IELTS exam scores

Experience in programming for high-performance computing is desirable but not required.
