Research Associate in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for one Research Associate position to assist in experimental mechanics of advanced materials in Professor Xiaodong (Chris) Li's lab.
The Research Associate is expected to perform materials and mechanical characterization and finite element analysis of composite materials and coatings, and write reports and technical papers.
QUALIFCATION REQUIRMENTS: A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering or related field is required by the start date of the position. The successful candidate shall have a background in experimental mechanics of advanced composites and coatings. Experience with materials characterization, experimental mechanics, and mechanical characterization techniques, including but not limited to digital image correlation, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray diffraction, X-ray computed tomography as well as mechanical testing techniques, including but not limited to tension/compression testing and indentation is required. Good written and oral communication skills is required.
