The Syracuse Biomaterials Institute and the Departments of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (BMCE) and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research position, scheduled to begin in the fall of 2019. The Postdoctoral Researcher will spearhead integrated, interdisciplinary experimentation and simulation to study fundamental properties of functional polymeric materials and to advance fabrication paradigms to develop new platform technologies to understand and treat injury and disease. Strong commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary research is especially desirable, as the researcher will work collaboratively within the labs of James Henderson (functional materials), Pranav Soman (biofabrication), and Teng Zhang (modeling). Demonstration of past accomplishment toward fostering diversity and building an inclusive climate in research is of great importance. The faculty advisors will help the researcher develop a tailored Individual Development Plan to advance his/her professional goals. The researcher will work within the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute, which offers world class facilities and a highly collaborative research environment.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, polymer science, or a closely-related discipline and demonstrate potential for excellence in research. Applicants should possess excellent English verbal and written communication skills, should be willing to drive a new project in a multidisciplinary research environment, and should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following project areas: biofabrication; biophysics; cell culture; materials science, particularly polymer science; mechanobiology; theory and mechanics of materials; and traction force microscopy.

For full consideration, candidates must complete an online application and electronically attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, description of research interests (no more than 5 pages), and contact information of three professional references through www.sujobopps.com (job # 074742, the posting can be accessed directly using this link https://www.sujobopps.com/postings/81116). Review of applications will start on September 3, 2019 and continue until the position is filled. For additional information, please contact Professor James Henderson, via email at jhhender@syr.edu.
