PhD Position at McGill University in Mechanics of Architected Multifunctional Materials

One PhD position is available for Fall 2020 in Advanced Multifunctional and Multiphysics Metamaterials Lab (AM3L) in the Bioresource Engineering Department of McGill University. The research topic is on the area of Mechanics of Architected Multifunctional Materials. Theoretical and computational multiscale modelling along with experimental (3D printing and characterization) studies will be conducted for nonlinear and multiphysics analysis of rationally-designed architected materials. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Hamid Akbarzadeh at McGill University.

 

Required qualifications for the position are:

1. Strong background on Advanced mechanics of materials, Computational multiscale mechanics, Instability analysis, Fracture mechanics, Cellular solids, and Architected materials.

2. Proficiency in nonlinear finite element analysis and using commercial finite element packages such as ANSYS/ABAQUS and COMSOL is a must.

3. Experience with Metamaterials design, Multiscale homogenization, Plasticity, and nonlinear plate and shell modelling is an asset.

4. Excellent programing skills using MATLAB and Python/C.

5. Good publication records.

6. Proficiency in English and high undergraduate and graduate GPA for admission to McGill University.
