PhD and MSc Positions at McGill University in Mechanics of Architected Metamaterials

One PhD and one MSc positions are available for Fall 2021 in Advanced Multifunctional and Multiphysics Metamaterials Lab (AM3L) in the Department of Bioresource Engineering of McGill University. The research topic is on the area of Mechanics of Architected Metamaterials. Theoretical and computational multiscale modelling along with 3D printing and experimental characterization will be conducted for nonlinear and multiphysics analysis of rationally-designed architected materials. The candidates will work under the supervision of Dr. Hamid Akbarzadeh at McGill University. 

Required qualifications for the position are:

1. Strong background on Advanced mechanics of materials, Computational multiscale mechanics, Instability analysis, Cellular solids, and Architected metamaterials.

2. Proficiency in nonlinear finite element analysis and using commercial finite element packages such as ANSYS/ABAQUS and COMSOL is a must.

3. Experience with Metamaterials design, Multiscale homogenization, Plasticity, and Instability of plates and shells is an asset.

4. Excellent programing skills using MATLAB and Python/C.

5. Good publication records in well-respected journals.

6. Proficiency in English and high undergraduate and graduate GPA for admission to McGill University.
