Two Fully Funded Ph.D. Position in Multiscale Modeling of Additive Manufacturing and 2D Materials

Kmomeni's picture

Two fully supported Ph.D. positions are available starting Fall 2022 in Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Lab at the University of Alabama on multiscale modeling of materials and processes. The objective of one project is to model the synthesis of 2D materials to design new processes to improve synthesis efficiency, as well as synthesis by the design of these materials, and to use machine learning algorithms to design materials and their synthesis process. The other is focused on modeling the additive manufacturing processes for in-space manufacturing.

During these projects, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with NASA research centers, national labs, and different universities across the nation such as MIT and PSU.

The candidates must have earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields (applicants with an MSc will be given priority), and have a solid background in theoretical and computational mechanics. Knowing continuum mechanics, finite element modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and a programming language is a plus.

The applicants should send the following materials to kmomeni@ua.edu and put Ph.D. Applicant as the subject of the email

·      Cover letter (summarizing their background, achievements, and motivations)

·      CV (including list related courses, publications, presentations, projects, and GRE/TOEFL scores)

·      Transcripts

·      One representative publication (if applicable)
