Funded PhD positions in the area of neutron irradiation effects on metals

 

We are looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic students with a degree in mechanical or materials engineering. Students with following backgrounds are strongly recommended to apply:

  • Neutron irradiation effects on metal alloys. 
  • Fracture mechanics.
  • Solid mechanics and finite element modeling of materials.
  • Crystal plasticity.
  • Diffraction and imaging experimental techniques.

Prospective candidates will be assessed based on how well they meet the following criteria:

  • Excellent degree in their relevant discipline;
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (iBT TOFEL score must be higher than 86, with no individual score below 20)

 

The following skills are desirable:

 

  • Ability to work with finite element packages, eg, ABAQUS.
  • Ability to conduct experiments using SEM, EBSD, TEM, and XRD.
  • Ability to program in any of the following languages:Fortran, Matlab, or Python.
  • Abilitiy to develop or work with user materials subroutines (eg UMAT).
