MedTrain+ is the successor Industry-Academia Training, Career Development and Mobility Fellowship Programme at CÚRAM, SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices to MedTrain (GA 713690). As part of this, MedTrain+ is offering prestigious three-year fellowships to eligible experienced researchers in the broad area of Medical Device Research and Development. The MedTrain+ programme will provide excellent experienced researchers with a research, complementary, and transferable skills training experience of the highest international standards. It will help them advance their scientific careers within a chosen sector, academia, industry, or the public sector.

Details of the programme are available here:

https://www.universityofgalway.ie/curam/research/eu-projects/medtrain/apply/

As part of the MedTrain+ programme, I will be supporting applications under my supervision in the topic area of:

  •  Simulation and data-driven approaches for the design of bioabsorbable metals for medical devices

These fellowships will be based at the Biomechanics Research Centre in the School of Engineering at the University of Galway and continue our work in using simulation approaches to predict corrosion mechanisms in bioabsorbable metals for medical devices. In recent years, we have developed new approaches to (i) quantifying the spatial distribution and evolution of corrosion and (ii) approaches to predict the onset of evolution of surface-based corrosion. We wish to advance these techniques by supporting applications of fellows with experience in the area of either experimental or computational analysis of metal-based biomaterials. To express your interest in this funding scheme, please send an email to ted.vaughan@universityofgalway.ie with a cover letter and CV and an outline of a research proposal that could be suited to this topic by 31st July 2023.

Following this, an application to the programme could be considered. Please note the following

  • Two fellowship levels will be offered to 50 candidates over two calls, ensuring varying depths of experience: Level 1 candidates will have less than four years of experience post PhD; Level 2 candidates will have four or more years’ experience post PhD.
  • For Level 1 researchers, the annual gross salary to be offered to the researchers is within the range €44,432- €51,256. For Level 2 researchers, the annual gross salary to be offered to the researchers is within the range €52,213- €59,037. In addition, mobility and other allowances may also be provided.
  • The full application process includes an Online application + Administrative Proposal: Max 1000 words: Part A plus Ethics Self-assessment form (including Max 2 Pages) + Part B (Research Proposal, 10 pages) + Academic CV (Max 5 pages with 3 references).
  • Full details of the scholarship programme are available at https://www.universityofgalway.ie/curam/research/eu-projects/medtrain/ap...
