Haythornthwaite Grants for Students to Attend ASME IMECE 2009

With a generous gift from the Haythornthwaite Foundation, the ASME Applied Mechanics Division will award grants to students presenting their own work at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE 2009).  The grant will reimburse travel expenses and registration fees, up to $1,000 per student, for up to 10 students.

To apply for the Haythornthwaite Grant, please email Professor Zhigang Suo (suo@seas.harvard.edu), in a single PDF file, with the following information:

  1. The ASME Paper ID.
  2. A brief description of the contribution of the applicant to the paper.
  3. A statement that the applicant is a full-time graduate student.
  4. A brief CV.

The submitted information will be used by a committee to select the winners of the Haythornthwaite Grants, on a competitive basis.

Deadline: 1 September 2009.

The Robert M. and Mary Haythornthwaite Foundation supports scientific research, primarily research in the field of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The Foundation also awards annual Prizes and Grants for advanced mechanics graduate students. Robert Haythornthwaite was founder and first President of the American Academy of Mechanics.
