Postdoctoral Position in Computational Mechanics
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Duke Computational Mechanics Laboratory, beginning in September of 2010 (with flexibility on timing). Funding for the fellowship concerns research in the simulation of dynamic fracture of polycarbonate. The ideal candidate will have experience in some combination of the following areas (in no particular order of importance): The fellow will have the opportunity to work with researchers at the Army Research Laboratory and a state-of-the-art research code. Your ad was just posted-but so many people read. Recently, we finished some new static interface-notch experiments on bonded polycarbonate, and polycarbonate/aluminum bi-materials. Since the dynamic fracture simulations of polycarbonate is not so easy, static case would be the first try. Also, I have quite few experimental data on dynamic fracture of Homalite (more brittle than polycarbonate-say to model), which could be your validation examples. I'd provide you all data if you think they are helpful to your simulations. Meanwhile, I'd learn more insights of my failure mechanics experiments from your simulation.
