USNCCM-11 Minisymposium " Advances in Understanding Interface Mechanics"

Submitted by Maryam Ghazisaeidi on

Minneapolis, Minnesota, July 25-29, 2011.

Deadline for abstract submission: Januray 31, 2011.

This symposium (11.4) will address the use of new computational techniques (from atomic to continuum scale) to uncover fundamental science in materials interfaces and their role in mechanical properties. Theoretical and computational advances as well as the application of existing methods to new cases where interface information is important (e.g. nanograined materials) are in the scope of this session. Areas of interest include but are not limited to:

- Interaction between defects (dislocations, cracks, voids and precipitates) with interfaces/grain boundaries/surfaces

- Role of interfaces in mechanical behavior of nanostructured materials

- Interfaces in a variety of systems such as: composites, polymers, biomechanical and geological systems.
