Ph.D. in seismology and geodynamics at ETH Zurich

Submitted by pippo on

The institute of Geophysics of ETH Zurich is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. candidate to be working in the domain of seismic imaging of the Earth's interior. Global seismic tomography is a relatively young discipline that rose to prominence in the 1980s and

Scaling dynamics of seismic activity fluctuations

Submitted by Balankin on

We study the dynamics of the seismic activity in Mexico within a framework of dynamic scaling approach to time series fluctuations, recently suggested by Balankin (Phys. Rev. E, 76 (2007) 056120).We found that the relative seismic activity and the long-sampled fluctuations of seismic activity both display a self-affine invariance within a wide range of consecutive seismic evens.
