Topic 48 (sub-branch): Safety issues during transportation and distribution of oil and gas.

Submitted by victor.adukwu on

Pipeline is a safe and reliable mode of transportation and distribution of oil and gas. It is also an economical and dependable mode of transportation particularly to the sensitive and strategic areas where vessels cannot access easily. It provides a long term infrastructural option and solves difficulties in handling large volume of products by rail from one loading point to another and therefore reduces minimum transit loss.

Topic 53: Health, safety, environmental and cost issues regarding operation, disposal, and re-use of decommisioned plants

Submitted by Azeezat on

In some years to come a large proportion of the offshore
platform will need to be decommissioned. Can we discuss the health, safety, environmental and cost issues as
regards the operation, disposal, and any potential re-use of decommisioned plants and structures?

Topic 49: Safety issues during drilling operations.

Submitted by Sergios Salavasidis on

These blogs are the perfect way to develop many and various safety discussions covering large areas of industries. As a student of an MSc in Oil and Gas Engineering I would like to develop a discussion related to safety issues in the sector of well drilling and generally the operations associated with this activity.

Topic 48: Safety issues during transportation and distribution of oil and gas.

Submitted by Sergios Salavasidis on

Transportation and distribution are two sectors of industry which should also be mentioned regarding safety issues applied there. Many incidents are indicating that there is a need of some improvements in practices applied so far. So, my suggestion is to discuss this topic further.

Topic 47: Effectiveness of using RBD, FTA, ETA and Bayesian Network in modelling failure of equipments in the industry

Submitted by c.ejimuda on

Reliability Block Diagram (RBD), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA) and Bayesian Network have been said to be useful tools in the Safety and Reliability class. How reliable is this? Can we discuss if this is true.

Topic 51: Energy landscape of the future and the risks associated

Submitted by Maria Christou on

People say that by 2040 the energy landscape
will definitely change. It is also believed that by 2040 the global energy demand
will be increased by 30% while the population is
expected to be increased by 25%.
How will these affect the industries? What are the risks associated? Undoubtedly,
fossil fuels will remain the world's
major sources of energy (at least 50% t of the world's energy supplies). That

Topic 46: Is it safe to leave the abandoned oil and and gas wells?

Submitted by Edwin Lawrance on

Usually
when the well reaches its economic limit the operator plugs and abandons it.
But the risks and hazards that can happen due to this are neglected. Gas leak
from one of the plugged wells of Elgin gas field shows that abandoned wells can
cause serious threats. With this incident which occurred recently shows that, accidents
can happen even if we have methods to completely seal or plug a well. No human
life was threatened by this accident, but oil and gas leaks from the abandoned
wells can cause serious environmental impacts. Reason for the gas leak in Elgin
field was due to the outdated plugging method used to seal the well by Total.
