Mellichamp Chair in Systems Biology. The University of California Santa Barbara seeks to hire a highly creative and productive individual to fill a Mellichamp Chair in Systems Biology. The opening has resulted from a philanthropic gift that has been generously donated by Duncan and Suzanne Mellichamp.

Candidates at all levels will be considered. The primary academic appointment will be in either Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with a possible joint appointment in a related science department.

The 5^th European Conference
on Complex System is holding in Dresden, Germany now. This is really
an emerging research area. The multiple para-sessions themselves show
how diverse and multi-disciplined it is. It includes:

• Complex system method

• Cognition

• Networks

• Social system

• Biological system

How does the cell know when to produce a protein? Why does it produce this protein? How does it produce this protein so accurately, in transcription, timing, and concentration? It is amazing that the cell functions as precisely as it needs to in response to various stimuli. What is more amazing is that the cell's actions are a result of stochastic processes.
