What is the Difference betweeen Stress and Pressure?

Submitted by erpankajgulati on

Stress is the property of the body under loads. It is defined as a sort of reaction produced by the molecules of the body under some action which tends to produce some deformation. this intensity of these additional forces produced per unit area is known as stress.

Pressure is defined as force per unit area applied to an object in a direction perpendicular to the surface.

Is it fine?

Is it possible to decompose a 4th-order tensor Dijkl with minor symmetry (i.e., Dijkl=Djikl=Dijlk) into Dijkl=AijBkl? And does Dijkl have its polar decomposition form like a 2-order tensor ? Welcome to discuss this question.

IPEBS

Hi,

I am intrested in Process piping design and saw an institude in India  called IPEBS based in HYDERABAD  that offers such courses. I would like to know if this institude is a good one. Other recomendations are welcome.

Thanks for your information.

ABAQUS model for special joint element and spring element

Submitted by jordan2 on

Very urgent two enquires:

1. How to model rotational spring element in order to define a curve
like M=k*(theta) where theta is the rotaional angle? It seems that
abaqus could only provide F=kx model.

2. there is a dashpot connector element which behaves like F=C * V
(where C is a constant), can I ask how to model F=C*(dv/dt)=C*a(where a
is the derivative of change of velocity)?

Thanks.

simulation of compact tension tests

I am a student and I need to simulate compact tension test so as to obtain the fracture toughness using ABAQUS. I would have to compare the fracture toughness value from ABAQUS with values obtained from experiment.

I have been trying to model the compact tension test for weeks without sucess. Can anyone give me the step by step description of how to model the compact tension test

Thank you

REG: ANALAYSIS OF COMPOSITE SHELL IN ANSYS

Submitted by sandip_remo on

im doin my final yr proj on composite shell......actually my structure involve a single layerd and a bidirectional fiber orientation...

But i felt really tough in solving usin ANSYS..i started my proceedings with some approximations ie) i hav used modelling->layup option with an assumption of 0.5 mm thick layer of 0 deg orientation....nd remaining 0.5mm thick layer of 90 deg orientation...

but my stucture involves an interwoven fabric structure....so im not sure whether im moving rite.....so pls give me ur suggestions

thanks in advance

Bending stress of a "T" collored tube kind of structure

Submitted by krishnan_che on

Hi everyone,

I am a under graduate (B.E-Mechanical) student carrying out project for my curriculam.

In this project I was alloted to study the strength of collered tube kind of product. In this product I have to study the stress at fillet region (Please refer the attached presentation) and suggest the required section improvement.

According to my knowledge, fillet region would undergo two kind of stresses

1. Normal stress (stress due to axial load and bending stress due to moment arm from the fixed end)
