Position for expert FEA analyst available at Dallas area, Texas

Submitted by Xiao Hu Liu on

Please apply online. Do not contact me; I do not work in the company.

The Research and Computer Aided Engineering group at Carrollton Technology Center of Halliburton is looking for an expert FEA analyst at principal engineer level. This position requires

1) Extensive experience with nonlinear finite element analysis and fundamental understanding and knowledge of Solid Mechanics.

2) In depth knowledge of finite element method, extensive experience with commercial FEA software, such as ABAQUS is highly desired.

Simulation of Hail Impact Using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic Method in Abaqus/Explicit

Submitted by SIMULIA on

Ice or hail impact is an important design consideration in the aviation, energy, and astronautics industries.  Physical testing of impact scenarios can be expensive and impractical.  Numerical simulations provide cost effective and convenient tools for including hail impact scenarios in the design process.

Numerically simulating high speed ice or hail impact is challenging because of the extreme deformation, fragmentation, contact, and material model complexity.

Maximum Time Step Problems in ABAQUS

Submitted by jodavies03 on

Hi,

I hape a relatively simple question. I am trying to set a maxmimum time step for a job by the lines:

*Static, allsdtol=0, continue=NO

0.05, 1., 1e-25, 0.05

so I believe the maximum time step should be 0.05 giving me a minimum of 20 increments in the step in total. However the STA file below shows that the job starts at 0.05 and the appears to ignore the maximum time step command. Can anyone tell me why this occurs?

loop inside a .psf file (parametric study file) in abaqus to get field variable output

Submitted by Hidroxid on

Dear all,

Does anybody how we can put a loop (for example while loop) inside a .psf (parametric study) file in abaqus?

For example a loop on all the increments we want to get a field variable output. Take a look at the following code:

Ramping initial stress in Membrane elements

Submitted by ashwin_blj on

Hi,

I am doing an explicit analysis, i am trying to model a woven fabric structure. I have to pre-stress the fabric so i have used this option.

*AMPLITUDE, NAME=name

*SECTION CONTROLS, RAMP INITIAL STRESS=name

Details from INP file

*Membrane Section, controls = SC, elset=FABRIC, material=FABRIC

0.5,

*AMPLITUDE, NAME = RampStress, DEFINITION = Smooth Step, time=total time

0.0, 0.0, 0.0025, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0

*SECTION CONTROLS,NAME=SC, RAMP INITIAL STRESS=RampStress

ABAQUS> documentation > *.inp example files> Projectile impacting eroding plate

Submitted by yousof.mohandes on

I have two questions about abaqus *.inp files.

first of all, as you may know, users are capable of running these type of example files through this way:

File> Import> Model...> SIMULIA>documentation>docs> v6.12> books> eif> *.inp

but when i run each of them (for instance Projectile impacting eroding plate: pl3d_erode_ccs.inp) , two important question marks above them will arised.

*MATRIX GENERATE - Global Stiffness matrix

Submitted by salingerv on

Thank you  for your reply. I know but I was wondering if it is possible to omit them manually.

One more question, I figured that using *MATRIX GENERATE, one could get the global stiffness, mass or load matrix in a ".mtx" file. But I am wondering why I can't get the file after the run.

DOFs in Abaqus

Submitted by salingerv on

Hi,

I got a simple 2D problem (a rectangular shell, static general, CPS4R element), with 557 nodes, each of them have 2 DOFs (U1 and U2), according to the data file. But when I print out the ELEMENT STIFFNESS MATRIX, for each element it is a 12x12 matrix which means the rotational DOF about z axis is also taken into account. How can I omit this 3rd DOF? Can I?

Thank you.

Temperatures updating in Abaqus (V)umat.

Submitted by YangTan on

As we know, Abaqus/(v)umat provides the temperatures at each material point at the end of the increment, but in a thermo-mechanical problem, the heat induced by plastic deformation is unknown before the plastic strain is calculated. So, How the temperatures at material points in abaqus are updated?

Thanks in advance.
