Faculty Position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level effective September 1, 2017.  This position is part of the strategic expansion intended to support research and teaching activities in the areas of sustainable water and environmental engineering. 

Study and Simulation of Tarbela Reservoir with and Without Sedimentation

Tarbela dam is one of the largest
earth filled dam. Tarbela dam lake has height of 485 ft  above the river bed and a reservoir size of
100 sq mi, reservoir capacity. It in
one of the largest man made reservoir constructed in 1970. The importance of
the dam can be realized due to the fact that this dam is on river Indus which
is considered as the backbone of Pakistan in terms of water storage, irrigation
and power generation. Main purpose of the Tarbela dam was to govern the flows
of the Indus River for irrigation purposes. In addition it is one of the
biggest sources of electricity generation. Sediment level at Tarbela Lake is
increasing across the years and there is a need to device methods to stop this
