Plugin for Tunneling and Geotechnical Analysis in Abaqus - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This study shows a plug-in for Abaqus/CAE that helps the user to define a tunneling, excavation and temporary structures, with support facility and other geotechnical analysis. The paper explores the steps to define a geotechnical analysis and Abaqus/CAE capabilities. It also includes two examples of the plugin usage: a tunnel and a retaining wall.

Computational Study of Cortical Bone Screw Pullout using the Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

In this study, using a UDMGINI subroutine, stress components relative to a predefined osteon orientation were computed and an anisotropic damage criterion was used to determine damage initiation and to predict crack propagation.

Evaluate Medical Device Design Robustness by Combining Statistical and Probabilistic Tools with Finite Element Analysis - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

In this study, FEA using Abaqus is combined with statistical and probabilistic analysis using Isight to demonstrate how these techniques work together to evaluate the robustness of medical device designs.

Thermal Expansion & Helical Buckling of Pipe-in-Pipe Flowline Systems -2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This paper presents helical buckling analyses are performed primarily to determine the critical effective axial load at which the inner pipe of a pipe-in-pipe (PiP) system snaps into a sinusoidal or helical buckling deformation mode.

Parametric Optimization of an Exhaust Manifold Using Isight, STAR-CCM+and CATIA V5 - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

The work presented demonstrates how Isight may be used to drive STAR-CCM+ and CATIA V5 for parametric optimization. A key requirement from the OEM was to remove time-consuming manual iterations from the design process and this example case was setup to demonstrate the automatic optimization process using their existing design and analysis tools.

Modeling Radiation Transport Using MCNP6 and Abaqus/CAE - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This study allows mechanical engineering models to be used in place of legacy constructive solid geometry descriptions, which are far less sophisticated. This capability also allows for the seamless integration of radiation transport calculations with analysis of the resulting thermal and mechanical effects on materials.

Stepwise Validated Finite Element Model of the Human Lumbar Spine - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

The objective of the present study was to develop and validate an explicit FE model of the lumbosacral spine and the FSU L4-L5 using patient-specific in vitro data and to evaluate load-deflection characteristics, contact mechanics and efficiency of the FSU. It is also to create a probabilistic model to efficiently predict the performance of the FSU by incorporating disc and ligament material variability.

Advanced FEA Compaction Model Using CEL Method - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

The application of the CEL method significantly enhances the capability of the compaction model for simulating multiple machine passes on level ground and slopes, traction behavior under large wheel slip, as well as blade dozing operations. It includes also some application examples for optimizing the design of a new generation of landfill compactors.

Structural Design Optimization of the SAR Plate Assembly Through Genetic Algorithm - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This study consists of an Isight application with the aim of automation and optimization of a structural design process of the SAR Plate Assembly. The multiobjective optimization problem that regards this specific helicopter component is handled through the use of 4 different genetic algorithms.

Numerical Model of the Structural Behavior of Energy Disipators, Based on Buckling Restrained Braces - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This article presents a numerical model of structural behavior of buckling restrained braces for the seismic protection of buildings. This design provides slender braces, which consequently, would buckle when shortened;conversely, this buckling is prevented by embedding the core in a stockier casing.
