Simpleware Australia Workshops

Simpleware will be running a series of free workshops in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne from March 23rd to April 1st 2015

These will include an overview of using the software to visualise, analyse, process and generate models from 3D image data (MRI, CT, micro-CT...). Learn how to obtain very high quality models from image data, how to integrate CAD objects with images, how to calculate effective material properties using Finite Element-based homogenisation techniques, and about exporting robust FE and CFD meshes for simulation in other software.

CFP: Mini-symposium at 13th US National COngress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM13)

We invite you to submit abstracts to this Simpleware-sponsored minisymposium

Deadline: February 15, 2015

13th US National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USCNCCM13)

July 26-July 30, Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego, CA

Mini-symposium - Biomechanics Modeling: Advances and Applications to Real-World Problems

Organiser: Petr Krysl, University of California, San Diego

Case Study: Modelling Ultrasonic Array Response of Real Cracks

Stress corrosion cracks can be a serious problem in many engineering industries, and especially so for critical parts. While an ultrasonic transducer can be used for the non-destructive evaluation of cracks with simple shapes, complex branching cracks, such as stress corrosion cracks, require ultrasonic arrays that consist of multiple transducers and are able to inspect at multiple angles.

Case Study: Mechanics of Bacterial Biofilms on Surgical Sutures

Biofilms represent bacterial communities that attach to implanted medical devices such as sutures and catheters. When detached from implants within the body, biofilms can cause chronic infections. This study used Simpleware software to generate image-based microscopic Finite Element (FE) models from confocal laser scanning microscopy scans of real biofilm colonies attached to a surgical suture fragment.

Simpleware Webinars: Intro to Animations Tools and New Physics Modules - February 11th and 18th

(re-arranged from January 14th and 21st)

We're running two webinars in February on the latest additions to our software ScanIP's 3D image processing, visualisation and model generation capabilities. The webinars are ideal for existing users and those wanting to learn more about creating models from 3D images.

Introduction to the new ScanIP Animations Tool on February 11th (8am/5pm GMT)

Free Simpleware ScanIP 7.0 Webinar - Dec 11th 2014

8am-9am GMT or 5pm-6pm GMT

REGISTER: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/rt/5038692716921477889

The latest release of Simpleware’s 3D image processing and model generation software includes new features designed to enhance visualisation, analysis and segmentation of 3D image data. Features include a particles analyser, centreline tools and new physics modules for calculating effective material properties using homogenisation techniques.

Simpleware Case Study: Total Hip Replacement Implant Positioning

CAD and FE models of hip implants

Positioning hip implants poses a number of challenges, particularly in terms of getting bone and implant contact right. While experimental testing can be costly, image-based modelling can be very effective at predicting the best and worst positions for implants.

Simpleware Case Study: Fuel Cell Microstructure from FIB Data

In this case study, based on work carried out at Imperial College and University College London, research was carried out into the performance of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The microstructure of an SOFC electrode was obtained using FIB tomography, and a volume mesh generated in Simpleware software, with the model then exported to Abaqus CAE. Boundary conditions were set in the solver and stress analysis conducted, which were able to approxiamte peak maximum principal stresses in response to thermal expansion.

Simpleware: Application Engineer (CAD, FEA, CFD) Opening - UK

Ref: SL0105
Salary: competitive (depending on experience)
Location: Exeter, UK

Simpleware is currently looking for a motivated applicant to join the technical support team of our rapidly expanding company. You should be passionate about working with clients by providing technical knowledge and sales support. You will also be responsible for contracted projects throughout the project life cycle which will require you to work very closely with the R&D departments of a range of blue chip corporate companies.

Image Based Modeling for Biomedical Implant Design

We'd like to share a recent publication based on our software, which converts 3D volumetric image data into computational models; this article, published in partnership with MSC Technology, highlights how we've been able to produce successful FE models for biomedical implant design.

We have more case studies and information available on our website - www.simpleware.com - where you can also download a free 30 day trial of our software.

Image-Based Simulation Workshop

WORKSHOP: Image-based Simulation for Biomechanics, Materials Applications, and Reverse Engineering

This workshop is aimed at those interested in 3D reconstruction from radiology images, and in using 3D image data (as obtained from CT, Micro-CT, MRI and Ultrasound) to generate Rapid Prototyping, CAD, and Finite Element models.
