Postdoc opportunity at Harvard in mechanics of soft materials for wearable devices

Submitted by walsh on

The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering and the School
of Engineering and Applied Science at Harvard University invites
applications for immediate openings for a joint postdoctoral fellow
position between the Whitesides Group (Prof. George Whitesides) and the
Harvard Biodesign Lab (Prof. Conor Walsh). The research is expected to
involve material science and mechanics of soft materials with a focus on
developing novel materials (e.g. actively variable stiffness, flexible
composites, etc) and fabrication approaches for the next generation of

Case Studies in Engineering Failure Analysis - New Journal welcoming submissions!

Submitted by Laure Ballu on

We are very pleased to announce the launch of a new journal in the field of mechanical engineering, Case Studies in Engineering Failure Analysis. This journal provides a forum for the rapid publication of short, structured Case Studies in Engineering Failure Analysis and related Short Communications and will provide an essential compendium of case studies for practitioners in the field of engineering failure analysis and others who are interested in the ways in which components fail.

PhD "CIFRE" position at UTC/Renault "Thermal design of Lithium battery for an electric vehicle" (closed)

Submitted by breit on

English version

1- Research areas

General area :

The battery is known for its strict requirement of the lowest maximum allowed working temperature in the entire electric transmission chain assembly.  This poses a problem particularly in climates with extreme temperature variations (35-45°C in summer and 0 to -30°C during winter) and during fast recharging at a significant battery power level.

Immediate opening for a PhD student in the area of computational materials and mechanics

Submitted by mohsenzaeem on

There is a PhD (RA) position available starting in the spring 2013 in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T- formerly known as University of Missouri-Rolla). MSE program at Missouri S&T is one of the largest and most respected MSE programs in the Us (http://mse.mst.edu).

The Ph.D. research project is about developing a multi-phase-field model for multi-component alloy solidification.

Post-doc Position at Dept of MEA at University of Miami

Submitted by Qingda Yang on
We have a likely opening for a postdoctoral theorist to work with Dr. Qingda Yang (University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida) and Drs. Dave Marshall and Brian Cox (Teledyne Scientific Co LLC, Thousand Oaks, California).  The project involves development of advanced computational methods for simulating discrete damage evolution in composite materials and the application of simulations to the interpretation and analysis of experiments, including new high temperature mCT and image correlation experiments being conducted at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Barbara, respectively.
