It is my pleasure to solicit nominations for the "Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty". This award, launched in 2012, is given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. While interdisciplinary work that bridges mechanics with physics, chemistry, biology and other disciplines is encouraged, the ideal awardee will demonstrate clear inspiration from mechanics in his/her research.
Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering,
Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ
Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applicants for a full time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. We seek an enthusiastic and energetic faculty member in either of the following areas: Automation and Controls or Materials, Manufacturing, Energy and Power, yet highly qualified candidates in any area related to Mechanical Engineering may be considered.
This work deals with the quantification and application of the modified two-mode phase-field crystal model (M2PFC; Asadi and Asle Zaeem, 2015) for face-centered cubic (FCC) metals at their melting point. The connection of M2PFC model to the classical density functional theory is explained in this article. M2PFC model in its dimensionless form contains three parameters (two independent and one dependent) which are determined using an iterative procedure based on the molecular dynamics and experimental data.

Our partner Weizmann Institute Science in Israel is currently trying to fill a PhD position for the FiBreMoD project. The title of the PhD project is "Microscale matrix and interfacial properties of fibre-reinforced composites". If you are an enthusiastic and motivated candidate with a background in Materials Science, Composites, Mechanics, or Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, then you should consider applying. You can find all the details on: http://tinyurl.com/esr1weizmann
A Doctorate of Engineering (DE) student position is available for Summer/Fall 2017 in Mechanical Engineering. It is highly prefered that the applicants are specialized in solid mechanics and well-familier with finite element methods. The positions involves multi-scale modeling of friction at high temperature and are directed by Multiscale Contact Mechanics and Tribology Laboratory at Lamar University, Beaumont, TX, USA.
Not too long ago, we identified dynamic recrystallization (DRX) as a potentially softening factor leading to the formation of adiabatic shear bands. However, the exact nature and the extent of the softening effect till remained to be assessed. The link to our new paper provides additional information on this issue.
