Many in this community may have heard the sad news of the passing last weekend of Michael Carroll.  Two obituaries have been posted: one at U.C. Berkeley where he was a faculty member for many years and another at Rice University where he was a former Dean of the College of Engineering.

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is one of the earliest and most prestigious universities in China. Department of Engineering Mechanics, taking comprehensive advantages of ZJU and School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, focuses on multidisciplinary research in Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, and Dynamics and Control. Planck submitted his doctoral dissertation in 1879, at the age of 21. According to Planck’s autobiography, his dissertation elaborated on Clausius's entropy and its role in distinguishing reversible and irreversible processes. His dissertation failed to interest his professors, Helmholtz and Kirchhoff among them. Planck subsequently, as a young academic, applied the principle of the increase of entropy to analyze phases and ideal-gas mixtures.

This exciting position is posted today.  We are looking for someone who has strong theoretical background in material constitutive modeling and has the ability to do user material coding and simulation automation through python/R/Matlab scripting.  Experience with shape-memory alloys is desired.  Below is the link:

Nanobrücken 2016: A Nanomechanical Testing Workshop & Hysitron User Meeting will take place March 2nd - 4th, 2016 at the INM - Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Saarbrücken, Germany. This will be the 6th edition of the now-annual Nanobrücken workshop series. 

As in the past, the workshop is open to all aspects of nanomechanical and nanotribological testing, including biomechanical, in-situ experimentation and theory/simulation.
