Purpose - The main aim of this study is to investigate the effect of geometric variables on the stress and strain distributions as well as non-linear deformation behaviour of aluminium alloy 2024-T3 single-lap bolted joints loaded in tension.

Notes on thermoplasticity

I've recently had the opportunity to take another look at plasticity in the large deformation context.  I've avoided going into geometric and other issues involved with multiplicative deformations (points stressed in earlier blog posts by Giovanni (node/11545), Arash (node/11623)  and Xiabo (node/11599).  Attached are some old notes that I'd prepared some years ago to help me with the details.  I hope they're of use to other students of mechanics.

Is paper ductile?

In my previous blog, I complained about colleagues developing constitutive models without having any notion about the specific nature of deformation and damage and their micromechanical mechanisms. Unfortunately, this happens more often than one might (or would like to) believe, as a recent example testifies.
