One Ph.D position in Mechanics of Materials starting from Spring, 2014

Submitted by Jie. Yin on
One Ph.D position starting from Spring, 2014 is available in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, US.

The research program will focus on mechanics of multi-functional materials and structures, thin film, mechanical self-assembly, and their novel applications in healthcare, energy absorption, and energy harvesting, etc. The research will involve a combination of experiments, modeling, and simulation methods (FEM and MD etc). Candidates with experimental or modeling background and interests in solid mechanics, mechanical engineering, materials science, and bio-engineering are highly encouraged to apply.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTION - Beatriu de Pinós scholarships

Submitted by fhuera on

The laboratory for fluid structure interaction (LIFE) at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona, Spain is looking for a Postdoc candidate to apply for the Beatriu de Pinós scholarship. The candidate will work in a project involving fluid-structure interaction in offshore engineering with applications to wind energy and the dynamics of offshore structures.

Dear all,

Herewith I want to announce the release of the frictional rolling contact model CONTACT version 13.1.

The main changes with respect to earlier versions of the program are as follows:

Predictive abilities for stresses in individual inclusions and the matrix by the Mori-Tanaka and PGMT formulation

Submitted by Atul Jain on

Both effective properties of composite and the stresses in the individual inclusions and in the matrix are necessary for modelling damage in short fibre composites. Mean field theorems are usually used to calculate the effective properties of composite materials, most common among them is the Mori–Tanaka formulation. Owing to occasional mathematical and physical admissibility problems with the Mori–Tanaka formulation, a pseudo-grain discretized Mori–Tanaka formulation (PGMT) was proposed in literature.
