Postdoctoral research on bone fracture mechanics

Submitted by Rizhi Wang on

One-year postdoctoral research on the fracture mechanics of bone is available at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. The project is a joint research between UBC Biomaterials (biomaterials.MTRL.ubc.ca) and the
Centre for Hip Health and Mobility (www.hiphealth.ca). The research is a combination of experimental studies (failure analysis,
mechanical testing, micro-CT imaging, laser scanning confocal microscopy

Doctoral Studentship in high strain rate properties of Nickel Alloys

Submitted by CliveSiviour on

The Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University has recently obtained an iCASE studentship funded by EPSRC and Rolls-Royce plc to perform research into the mechanical behaviour of metals at high temperatures and high strain rates. The studentship provides full funding (fees and stipend) at the home / EU level for 3.5 years.

Shell-to-Solid submodeling in ANSYS (APDL)

Submitted by Reza Afshar on
Dear All

I have a question regarding Shell-to-Solid submodeling in ANSYS (APDL). I have followed the ANSYS help, but even for the same geometry used by ANYS, the stress values on the submodel are very high and at the wrong position.

I was wondering if any one has a tutorial on Shell-to-Solid submodeling in ANSYS (APDL) or any hints regading this type of submodeling?

Thank you in advance

Graduate Research Assistant (PhD student) position in ME @ Georgia Tech

Submitted by aerturk on

We are seeking a motivated PhD student (only a student currently in the US for an immediate start) to work as a Graduate Research Assistant in our NSF project titled "Metamaterial-Enhanced Electroelastoacoustic Energy Harvesting for Sensor Systems." This computational and experimental project will investigate electroelastoacoustically coupled linear and nonlinear metamaterial-inspired piezoelectric energy harvesting concepts for self-powered sensor systems.
