One postdoctoral position in advanced concrete materials starting May 2012

Dear All,

I am looking for one postdoctor to work on advanced concrete materials and modeling. The desired candidates will have a solid knowledge on concrete materials and mechanics, and are familiar with advanced modeling of hydration, water or chemical transfer in concrete. Extra considerations will be given to candidates with some experimental experiences on concrete microstructures and material characterization.

I am looking for highly motivated PhDs/PostDocs to join my group to work on various aspects of efficient high-fidelity modeling of composite structures/materials, mainly related with VABS/VAPAS/VAMUCH. The basic qualifications are: basic training in solid mechanics and composite materials, excellent math and programming skills, and good English communication skills. Parametric study

Dear Mechanicans,

 

I work with Abaqus 6.11-1 and would create a parametric study to studie results from multiple analysis.

In my first example I use a geometric easy specimen where I sampling the young's modulus in a cube.

I create and perform a parametric study what works very well. But if I would gather results of one element set from the output database (odb) Abaqus prompt that "element or node labeles are required". I have read the Abaqus User's Manual but dosent found a suitable solution.

J integral variation through thickness in tubes with through-wall circumferential crack, calculated with Abaqus/CAE

Dear friends: I am a PhD candidate studying fracture problems in tubes. I am doing J integral calculations in Abaqus, for tubes with through-wall circumferential cracks subjected to tensile and bending loads. I am using quadratic 20 nodes isoparametric elements with reduced integration (C3D20R), ranging from two to five elements through the wall thickness mesh.

career as computational seismologist

Dear Mechanicians,

I have got an offer to do PhD in computational seismology in a very good university in Europe, however, I have no idea what sort of career I should expect after getting my PhD in this field. I got my BSc and MSc in mechanical engineering but have never worked in the field of geophysics and seismology. Therefore I am hesitating whether to take the offer or not. 

Strain rate values

Can anyone guide me in clearing this doubt? I would like to get the values of normalized flow stresses Vs Strain rate for 304 L stainless steel and Ti-6Al-4V. This values will be used as an input for simulating fan blade-out event. This values will be used since this process involves higher velocities, higher deformations and it occurs in less time.

Below is the error i get when i try to solve shell model.

please explain why and how to over come this issue. my model contains nealry 8lakh element. It has contacts,rigid beam used for screws, distributed coupling for load,
