Crack length in fracture mechanics

Submitted by manooir on

Hi,

I have modeled a beam with a hole in it in ABAQUS. I use of FRACTURE MECHANICS and FINITE ELEMENT METHOD for perdiction of failure load of beams with holes. I am wondering is it a correct assumption to assume a fixed crack length for one beam with varying hole position or not?

It have assumed that a fixed crack length for a beam with varying location of hole along the beam.

Am I correct?

Thank you,

Manooir

SIMULIA announces new features in Abaqus 6.10

Submitted by Kewei Li on

For those of you looking for FSI simulation on Abaqus platform, recently Simulia has announced the new features in release 6.10, which introduces the capability for performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation.
So it enables users to perform coupled physics simulations with
Abaqus/Standard and Abaqus/Explicit, such as fluid-structure
interaction between human tissue, a medical device, and fluid flow, more information:

Stiffness of a beam

Submitted by parisa on

Hi,

As a part of my research, I would like to break down a simply supported beam to two beams shown in the attachement.  I expect to remove the bond and use of springs for transforming deformation of upper beam to lower beam. What could be the stiffness of springs which could be used in new model?

Thank you for your comment,

Parisa

crack closure tip model

Submitted by uni_students2009 on
Hello, my question meaning that developed crack closure model can be explained the damage interaction among cycles of loads, is it right that each cycle has a own damage how can interpolate the overall dame in realistic as possible? which model do you suggested that can be contribute in this issue consider crack closure model?

orientations of plies of composite plate in LS DYNA

Submitted by nazmtech on

hello im a M-Tech student..i need  help regaring LS DYNA.i want to model a composite plate with the orientations[0/45/-45/90] i want apply the orientations and how to view the orientations of the plies. and i want know how to predict delaminations when it is impacted by a rigid ball...in LS DYNA..plz help me out

EFG Method using LS-Dyna

Submitted by puneetsoman on

Hello All,

I am a Masters Student trying to model a cyst in a Nerve for which i need to obtain large deformation(not displacement) which is not able to model with the help of Finite Element Tools(used Abaqus previously but no success).

I searched through the Internet and got to know that Meshless Methods are well known for Large Deformation.I found on the web that LSDyna has commercial code of EFG which i feel will be useul to me.
