Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research into the Mechanics of Magnesium Alloys

Submitted by Robert Gracie on

A postdoctoral fellow is sought to study the mechanics of magnesium alloys at the University of Waterloo, Canada, under the guidance of Dr. Worswick and Dr. Gracie. The qualified applicant will have a proven background in computational mechanics, substantiated by publications in international journals.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience coding large deformation plasticity models, coding the finite element method and with using fracture mechanics.  In addition, experience with high strain rate testing of materials is desirable.

Localization of Inelastic Deformation 2010

Submitted by jenda_z on

Dear colleagues,

I would like to bring to your attention the advanced course on Modeling of localized inelastic deformation that will be taught by Milan Jirasek in Prague, Czech Republic on 13-17 September 2010.

More detailed information on the course is posted at http://mech.fsv.cvut.cz/~milan/course2010.html. We are looking forward to seeing you in Prague!

Wrong pore pressure and effective stress state in ABAQUS

Submitted by Valdemar9000 on

Hey.

I want to model an anchored sheet pile wall placed in a completly saturated clay material, where

the excavation steps on the left side of the wall have to be taken into account.

I am using the keyword in ABAQUS "*Model change, Remove" to remove my elements, so I can

simulate the excavation steps. Unfortunately, my pore pressures seem stranges in the

model when I am using this keyword.

Discrepancy in radial displacement governing eq for a sphere from Dr. Allen Bower's text in section 4.1.3

Submitted by tsunamiBTP on

Attached is a pdf file indicating a discrepancy in the governing eq for radial displacements in a sphere.  I am + Dr. Bower's text is correct but I cannot reconcile my derivation with his so I am assuming there must be some underlying assumption or approximation I am not aware of.

Can anyone provide me with greater insight?

Question on the visualization softwares of texture.

Submitted by Shunlai.Zang on

Hi everyone,

I want to know if there are some opensource softwares to transfer the x-ray raw data to representative discrete pole figure data by Euler angles ? Now I know how to calculate ODF from x-ray raw data with the help of "Mtex". But I dont know how to get representative discrete pole figure data by Euler angles, which is used for CP numerical simulation, from ODF.

Thank you very much!

Shunlai

Postdoctoral Position in Computational Mechanics

Submitted by deborah.sulsky on

The University of New Mexico, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and/or the Department of Mechanical Engineering, is seeking candidates for a post-doctoral position to conduct research in the area of computational geomechanics for a project related to modeling the effect of rock joints on tunnel failure. A start date about June 1, 2010 is anticipated, subject to final budgetary approval. A Ph.D.

TAHOE open source FEM code

Submitted by unsrohith on

Hi I hope some users are working on the open source FEM code TAHOE.  The link from sandia National Laboratories (http://tahoe.ca.sandia.gov/) to download the software is not working. I got the tahoe 1.2 .tgz from sourceforge.net. But I am unable to create the executable in linux as it is displaying some error. If any one has compiled executable I kindly request you to post it.

 Thanks and Regards,

Rohith
