An Urgent Appeal for Your Support of My Job Application at COEP's Mechanical Engineering Department

Submitted by Ajit R. Jadhav on

Dear iMechanicians,

I have applied for the job of "Associate Professor" in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at COEP, Pune, India [^]---the same place from where I did my PhD (Mech.) research.

Cohesive material zone model and ABAQUS subroutines

Submitted by Angelos Irakleidis on

Hello,

I'd like to ask if anybody knows if it is possible to use an ABAQUS usersubroutine that could vary some parameters (τmax, kn or ks etc) of the cohesive zone model of ABAQUS with the vertical pressure applied on the interface. The new ability of ABAQUS to support cohesive behaviour in contact surfaces seems very interesting and useful, however how could somebody simulate the interface under a compression - shear regime that may follow a Mohr-Coulomb type behaviour?

In-surface Buckling of Silicon Nanowires on Elastomeric Substrates

Submitted by Jianliang Xiao on

Buckling of thin layers or aligned arrays of stiff materials on elastomeric substrates has many important applications, such as stretchable electronics, precision metrology and flexible optoelectronics.  These systems show one common phenomenon, the stiff thin layers buckle normal to the substrate surface (out-of-surface buckling).  By contrast, we recently reported for the first time that silicon nanowires (SiNWs) on elastomeric substrates buckle only within the substrate surface, i.e. in-surface buckling.  Experimental process to obtain buckled SiNWs is described.

Food for Thought: A Few Recent arXiv Papers

Submitted by Ajit R. Jadhav on

Since my research touches on the basics of QM, I have developed this habit of visiting arXiv.org every now and then. Last week or so, at arXiv.org, I found a couple of interesting articles on physics in general. I would like to share these with you.

Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Modeling Li-Ion Batteries

Submitted by guofengwang on

A postdoctoral research position in the modeling of failure mechanisms for lithium ion batteries is available immediately at the Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy in Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). The candidate will work on the study of failure mechanisms of lithium ion batteries which are related to lithium ion diffusion, heat generation and transfer, chemical reaction, and stress development inside the battery.

Research Engineer Position in Computational Mechanics at KAUST

Submitted by Dawei Zhang on

A research engineer position is available in the Composite and Heterogeneous Materials Modeling and Simulation Laboratory (COHMAS) at King Abdullah Univeristy of Science and Technology (KAUST).

This position will be mainly engaged in two kind of activities:

1) Act as the Lab manager from the computational and simulation side, and support students, post-docs and researchers in the group in developing applications and usinghigh performance computing facilities;

A postdoctoral position is avilable in the Composite and Heterogeneous Materials Modeling and Simulation (COHMAS) Laboratory at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The successful candidate will be engaged in modeling and simulation of degradation in composite materials.

Convergence test in ANSYS

Submitted by gohelvivek on

Hi, i tried to solve a simple plane stress cantilever problem using ansys but it did not converged to the exact value and it goes beyond the exact value for stress and diplacment domain as i go on making finer mesh. the problem is as shown below, i tried 4 noded solid plane82 and 8 noded plane 182 element type. Can anybody tell me the procedure for convergence test in ansys
