Simple beam simulation in Abaqus

Submitted by Emmanuel E. Ufuah on

Hi everyone,

I have modelled a simple beam using continuum elements to assess the mechanical behaviour. The results are quite good since it could predict deflection close to test data. Using ABAQUS general-purpose shell elements, the deflection is quite small compared to test results ie it appears the material has become more stiff. Can any one give me a clue?

Many thanks in advance,

Complicated rotor dynamic simulation with ANSYS/ABAQUS or Madyn 2000

Submitted by phamhuytuan on

I have a system as in the Figure. There will have a radial load and a lateral load acting on the circumference of the drum which rotate at around 1000 rpm. I want to investigate the stability of the shaft at this speed. Can ANSYS or ABAQUS simulate this kind of dynamic simulation or is there any other software can solve my problem.

Thank you.

Combined EAM and Stillinger-Weber potential and Combined EAM and Tersoff Potential

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

We have combined the EAM and the SW and the TF potentials in one functional form. This functional form allows the modeling of metal covalent systems (M-Si,Ge,C,SiC) very efficiently allowing the study of large systems. The potential iscalled as the "Angular-dependent Embedded Atom Method".

Tensile coupon test - simulation of tensile coupons (after necking)

Submitted by ron.dana on

I have carried out several coupon tests (rectangular coupons similar to
those of ASTM E8). Some of these tests have kind of weird behavior. The
problem arises when I simulate results with ABAQUS. It goes pretty well
until a few steps after necking. Test and ABAQUS results match exactly
until several steps before fracture. After this point, there is a
discrepancy between results and my attempts in capturing the observed
behavior was unsuccessful. (around 10% or more plastic strain).

Pressurized Cylinder FEM constraint

Submitted by fernando.romagnoli on

Dears,

I have a cylinder subjected to an internal pressure of 10 MPa, the cylinder diameter is 1400 mm. I am trying to model it in my FEMAP. I am comparing the average stress (TOP and BOT Y) with the stress that come from the formula

hoop_stress=pressure.Radius/thickness

The stress I obtained is similar with the one that is from the formula, but the deformed is not equal, it is crazy !
