Opening for two new Ph.D. students in the Computational Mechanics group, The University of Iowa.

Submitted by Xuchun Ren on

The Computational Mechanics group at The University of Iowa, led by Professor S. Rahman, is looking for two new Ph.D. students, who are capable of and interested in performing high-quality research on isogeometric methods and uncertainty quantification. The research, supported by U.S. National Science Foundation, requires building a solid mathematical foundation, devising efficient numerical algorithms, and developing practical computational tools, all associated with stochastic isogeometric analysis of complex materials and structures. A substantial background in solid mechanics with coding experience in finite-element or similar methods is a must; exposures to uncertainty quantification and probabilistic methods are highly desirable.

XFEM crack under compression.

Submitted by Hidroxid on

Hi all,

I am doing crack modelling (XFEM) under moving compression and traction loading in Abaqus but I get warning regarding the crack under compression load as follows:

"THE LOADING CONDITION MIGHT MAKE MAIN CRACK UNDER COMPRESSION AT  NSET "X" THE CRACK PROPAGATION DIRECTION CANNOT BE PREDICTED. A VALUE OF ZERO IS PROVIDED FOR IT."

Anyone facing the same issue?

Kind regards,

Omid

ABAQUS: problem in applying pressure after element deletion

Submitted by SamInfinity on

In ABAQUS, how to apply a pressure field using vdload subroutine on a newly produced surface after deletion of elements from the top surface where the pressure field was actually applied? Or in other words, how to define a new surface for applying a pressure field, where the surface on which the pressure was initially applied is deleted with the evolution of damage.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FOR THE 6TH BIOT CONFERENCE ON POROMECHANICS

Submitted by Amar A. Chaker on

The 6th Biot Conference on Poromechanics (http://biot2017.sciencesconf.org/ ) will be held just outside of Paris, France, at École des Ponts ParisTech and IFSTTAR, from July 9 to July 13, 2017. The Biot conference is organized only once every 4 years and is the main international event for experts in poromechanics. All topics related to porous solids that deform and contain one or several pore

Submitted by KevinGE on

We are looking for one Ph.D student and one postdoctoral research for a project which is funded by funded by Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and focuses on synthesizing, characterizing, modeling, and simulating the thermo-mechanical behavior of polymers with covalent adaptable networks (CANs), e.g. vitrimers.

Abaqus_umat Issue

Submitted by Preetesh on

I am using intel® parallel studio xe cluster edition(Student Version)as fortran compiler with abaqus 6.11-1.
When I tried to compile the input file with user subroutine Umat(crystal plasticity) file then following log
was generated. I'm unable to figure out the error as message file was not generated.Any help would be
appreciated.Thank you!

Input file and umat file is available on :https://icme.hpc.msstate.edu/mediawiki/index.php/Code:_ABAQUS_CPFEM
