Modeling of carbon nanotubes and carbon nanotube–polymer composites

Submitted by ghanshyampal78 on

Highlights

-    In polymer matrix nanocomposites (PNC), carbon nanotubes (CNT) physically bond with polymeric matrix at a level where the assumption of continuum level interactions is not applicable.

-    Modeling and prediction of mechanical response and failure behavior of CNTs and PNCs becomes a task involving up-scale modeling strategies with multiple spatial and temporal scales in hierarchical or concurrent manner.

Multiscale modeling of effective electrical conductivity of short carbon fiber-carbon nanotube-polymer matrix hybrid composites

Submitted by ghanshyampal78 on

Highlights

-    A hierarchical modeling approach is presented to predict the electrical conductivity of hybrid composites.
-    Influence of CNT content, anisotropic conductivity, percolation and interfacial resistance is studied.
-    Effect of short carbon fiber (SCF) loading, conductivity anisotropy, aspect ratio, and orientation is also reported.

A postdoctoral position on solid mechanics

Submitted by a43803877 on

Dear Professor,

I am Fan Xie, currently a doctoral candidate in solid mechanics, Beihang University. I will receive my Ph. D. degree in July 2016.

I have published one paper about IPC based on phase field method, one paper on nanoporous material and one paper about polymer impact based on MDs is under review. I write this email to inquire about the possibility of a postdoctoral position in your research team.

    In brief, I have

Nanobrücken 2016: A Nanomechanical Testing Workshop & Hysitron User Meeting

Submitted by Douglas Stauffer on

Nanobrücken 2016: A Nanomechanical Testing Workshop & Hysitron User Meeting will take place March 2nd - 4th, 2016 at the INM - Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Saarbrücken, Germany. This will be the 6th edition of the now-annual Nanobrücken workshop series.

As in the past, the workshop is open to all aspects of nanomechanical and nanotribological testing, including biomechanical, in-situ experimentation and theory/simulation.

Merge mesh in Abaqus

Submitted by manojbrutal.v@… on

Hi I tried to mesh these two plates with two cases having different geometries. I am trying to achieve something similar in complex geometry in abaqus. But I think the problem is with shapes or if it is something else, please help me with this. I tried in solid elements too it did not work either. I have attached image where you can see two cases

finding contact time from maximum displacement for hertzian contact

Submitted by rctron on

While going through the derivation of contact time for a hertzian contact as given in problem 3 at the following link http://s17.postimg.org/t1kq6mlxr/Capture.png , I am not able to understand how the integral form for contact time has come into picture. Can anyone explain the in-between steps to get the same? I understand that this is a very trivial problem but it will be a great help to understand the steps. Thanks.

Influence of interface and strain hardening cementitious composite (SHCC) properties on the performance of concrete repairs

Submitted by shavijabranko on

Mladena Lukovic of Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) has successfully defended her thesis dealing with mechanics and physics of concrete repair systems on 6th of January. Her thesis can be downloaded at http://repository.tudelft.nl/view/ir/uuid:28b07d9b-c704-47fa-9ba3-cd9fd… , and is of interest to everyone dealing with discrete modelling and micromechanical testing of cementitious and other quasi-brittle materials.
