We have an open PhD position starting in either the Spring or Fall semester 2016 at the Computational Laboratory for the Mechanics of Interfaces at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville (http://clmi.utk.edu). The research topic centers upon the modeling of texture evolution in FCC and BCC metals using dislocation density based crystal plasticity.

I am trying to model interface crack propagation in Abaqus using Cohesive Interaction (default module in Abaqus). My model consists of two rectangular domains attached to each other by the longer edge. I am defining two surfaces on each of these domains and defining traction separation laws for these surfaces. There is a small portion in the middle for which I am not defining any traction separation law (thereby making it my notch). I am then applying displacement controlled loading on the remaining two longer edges. I am having two set of problems:

I am working with Pore-pressure cohesive element in abaqus. In this element, I can define laminar fluid flow. However, I was wondering to see if I can change it to turbulent flow?

In these types of elements we use Poiseuille's law to model fluid flow. So the form of it is (qd=K_t*del_p). Is it possible to change this equation to another equation with the same degree of freedom?

In this paper we describe the dynamic behavior of elongated multi-structured media excited by flexural harmonic waves. We examine periodic structures consisting of continuous beams and discrete resonators disposed in various arrangements. The transfer matrix approach and Bloch-Floquet conditions are implemented for the determination of different propagation and non-propagation regimes.

I have numerous errors when assigning the FRIC subroutine to .INP file. Any suggestions would truly be appreciated.

What I did:

Within my subroutine I change the .VAL=PROPS(X) to a designated number—i.e. .VAL=0.00

ABAQUS doesn’t recognize these variables(PROPS(X)) sometime.

I created the LIB files (abaqus make library=XXX.for) needed when running the interactive job.

Then added the .lib to the abaqus environment (abaqus_v6), then, allocated the .for file to the working directory as well as the .inp file.

I have written a UEL in C, with several functions, for a geometrically nonlinear problem. It's said in ABAQUS documentation that UEL's can be written in C, but I haven't been able to find much information about how to run those UEL's. I'm using ABAQUS 6.13 on Win7. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated.
