Applications are invited for a Ph.D. position in the area of theoretical/computational solid mechanics. Some topics of research interest are elasticity theory, wave propagation, dynamic fracture and friction, and earthquake dynamics. A good background in mathematical modeling, applied mathematics and scientific computing is required.
We invite you to participate in a minisymposium at the 17th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM17) conference that will take place in Albuquerque, NM, USA, from July 23-27, 2023. The title of the minisymposium is "Performance-portable algorithms for unstructured mesh applications” (https://17.usnccm.org/510). Abstracts are due by January 15, 2023.
The unified mechanics theory (UMT) is ab-initio unification of the second law of thermodynamics and Newton's universal laws of motion, in which Boltzmann's second law of entropy formulation governs dissipation & degradation. Hence, the unified mechanics theory does not require any empirical dissipation & degradation potential function or an empirical void evolution function. Material degradation is quantified on the Thermodynamic state index (TSI) axis based on the specific entropy production, which starts at zero and asymptotically approaches one at failure.
