Importing Patran neutral file in to Ansys

Submitted by Zahra Zabolizadeh on

I imported the Patran neutral file (with *.out) in to Ansys(for a plate with a hole which was generated in the IDL and was imported in to the Patran) . but just the geometry of plate imported and i had not any elements, nodes (any mesh), and it reported in the Ansys. I also tried "import mesh " and nothing happend. could you please let me know what should I do?

How to choose what kind of element for particular problem (2D plane stress element or 3D solid element)?

Submitted by itbitb on

Dear all,

I would like to ask expert FEM users that how can we choose what kind of element for particular problem? Such as a plate (thickness t = 2.5 mm, W = 15 mm, L = 64 mm) subjected to axial tensile loading of cyclic loading, I should choose 2D plane stress element or 3D solid element?

It is really appreciated for all suggestions.

Kind regards,

Ansys - Concrete nonlinear beam

Submitted by Guillaume Gondre on

Hello,

I have to model with the Ansys software a beam in concrete material. It must be non linear.

In materials properties, I can choose Materials models - Structural - nonlinear - inelastic - non metal plasticity - concrete.

I put the Elastic Modulus, the Poisson´ratio, the uniaxial cracking stress and the uniaxial crushing stress. But I don´t know how I can enter the values of the strain at fc (compressive cylinder strength) and the value of the fracture energy.

I have glanced through both messages: "About: why....." and "The reasons of...." And was surprised: there are hundreds of readers but no one comments. What happened? Are there a lot of cheap energy - isn't a problem? And good diamonds aren't interesting?

May be this magazine read only simple people, and serious scientists and engineers are ignoring it?

It's a pity; this topics aren't empty; if the author writes nonsense, clever people must show on it.

FEM Is Not a Local Method (and It Isn't Global Either)

In the literature, FEM has sometimes been characterized as a local approach, but IMO this needs to be corrected.

The piecewise continuous trial-functions of FEM can be looked at from two different viewpoints:

problem with meshing

hi friend

   iam new to ABAQUS and
i am modeling a sample plate in Abaqus with a crack and partitioning the
region at crack tip, but im getting an error such as "24 elements are
within a contour region. The elements are identified in element set
ErrElemIncorrContInteg".

Iam also attaching the   file that i have modelled. please anybody help me in solving the problem

Abaqus CAE

Submitted by hadi on

I intend to create a
composite model, containing a cylindrical fiber surrounded by a cube, by Abaqus CAE v 6.7-1. I create
two separet parts, one for the cube and the other one for the cylinder. Then, I
cut the cube by the fiber; the third part (lets say the cut part) is created
automatically. Now, I need to mesh the parts and merge them.
