EST method with GNU Octave

Submitted by Andres Lahe on

The EST method -- http://www.e-uni.ee/e-kursused/estmethod/ -- http://digi.lib.ttu.ee/estmethod/ESTmethod.pdf -- is a general computational method, for solving boundary value problems for the structural analysis of frames, beams, and trusses. Differential equations are considered here together with a set of boundary conditions.  Compatibility equations for joint displacements and equilibrium equations for member end forces at joints serve as boundary conditions.

Case Study Effect of Pore Size on Pellet-Based Catalyst Flow

Submitted by Simpleware on

We have a new case study on our website based on research at Imperial College into multiscale tomography and calculating permeability for catalysts. The project involved studying the influence of pore structure on fluid flow across large length scales in silica-alumina pellet-based catalysts.

3D data at different length scales was obtained from XMT, DBFIB-SEM and ET scanning and segmented into a binarised dataset.

elastic follow-up

This is the story of threefold failure, which doubtlessly is the subject of fracture mechanics, a story of failure in various regards, however. First, it comments on an article dealing with failure assessment, second it reports on the personal failure of the blogger to understand this article, and finally it bemoans the failure of a seminal idea.

Chasing for “prey”, I came upon a contribution on the assessment of “crack-like defects under combined primary and secondary loads”, namely

corotational concept

hello Dear friends

I have one question about corotational concept. is it possible to obtain tangent

stiffness matrix by TL approach and updating degrees of freedom(including displacement and

rotation by corotational. please aware me of related papers.

Abaqus Fictitious Surfaces for Beams -- Help

Submitted by rdgabbai on

All,

Hello. Looking to create a fictitious surface around an Abaqus model that uses beam elements for the purpose of transferring pressure loads from CFD to the beam. We are restricted to using beam elements; indeed, structure is a very long and thin beam.

What is the easiest way to do this?

Most grateful for your help.

keywords error in vumat

Submitted by atefe.geramian on

Dear all,

I constructed a VUMAT subroutine which including 4 state dependent variables, so I wrote "*Initial Conditions, Type=Solution" in keywords. But, when I run the simulation I get this error:

in keyword *PERMEABILITY, file "Job-vumat2.inp", line 102: The keyword is misplaced. It can be suboption for the following keyword(s)/level(s): material

Analysis Input File Processor exited with an error.

Could anybody help me? Thanks a million.
