Cohesive behaviour for Interaction in Abaqus Explicit at the interface of materials

Hi,
I am working on effects of Blast Loading in sandwich composites using Abaqus. I want to incorporate Cohesive behaviour at the interface of the two materials in the sandwich composite structure i am analysing.

 When I specify the interaction proporty as a cohesive bahaviour(if i dont intend to use thedefault parameters given by Abaqus), I am supposed to input whether its coupled interaction or uncoupled interaction and inpur the relevant values of Knn, Ktt, Kss etc. As of now, I am not able to find any standard literature values available for these contants on the internet. So I've been using the defaults given by Abaqus.

 
Can someone suggest me some references where I can read more/find about the  values of Knn,Ktt,Kss etc for the Cohesive behaviour interaction at the interfac of two materials in the composite.

Hi Venkat,

You will have to find specific values for the type of composite you are using. Abaqus will not converge due to the phenomenon of 'snapback' if you provide incorrect or assumed cohesive data. 

Usually it is difficult to find these properties in literature if you are using a specific material. We have conducted experiments on adhesively bonded joints with polymers and metals and use this data in our simulations. Acquiring data solely depends on what type of material you are using.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for your response. I  am right now working on the The response of a sandwich composite consisting of laminated AS4/3501-6 carbon/epoxy composite facesheets and Divinycell H100 structural foam core. I want to incorporate conhesive interaction at the interfaces. Kindly help me if you have the values for these materials. 

Also you mentioned that we'll have to find specific values for the type of composites we use - Can you plase suggest some references about how to find those values?? AlsoI am working on this specific type of composite as a start and I would like to extend the investigation to many other types of sandwich composites. So I would appreciate it a lot if you could share me the values and the material properties of some of the composites you've with you.

Hi Venkat,

Most of our data are on same and bi-material adhesive joints. We use polymers like polycarbonate, PMMA and Homalite in conjunction with metals like aluminum, steel etc. bonded together with adhesives. So our data is on polymer-metal combinations and not on composites. 

You should be able to find tensile and shear data for certain popularly used composites in literature. If it is a specially manufactured one, it might benefit you to ask the manufacturer; they might have tested for these properties. Otherwise for you model, use a material with similar properties for which you can find values. Try validation with some experimental work. I generally use this website called engineeringvillage.org for finding references. You could use this or Google scholar depending on availability in IIT KGP.
